A healthy Skepticism

In this industry, as in this life, there is no shortage of people looking to separate you from your money by any means necessary. Often times this means exploiting your fundamental desire to be healthy, a loosely and controversially defined concept to begin with. Approach everything with a polite skepticism, yes, even this series of bytes.

Hucksters will try “lie detectors”, hand you needed products that “balance your energies” and strengthen your ability to maintain a body hold. Understand, dear reader, these are tricks and shenanigans performed by hucksters and unscrupulous individuals. If I am ever proven wrong, i will gladly eat my keyboard along with my words.

Another common technique, though less a scam or direct act of trickery, is the secret (shhhh!) fitness technique. Often seen in the latest and greatest of fitness fads, these techniques will be hyped with success stories . The truth is, for many people any activity will result in amazing success, simply due to the lack of anything beforehand.

I suppose then, there is one secret in fitness, and I think you may have already guessed it: be active, and be active consistently. Our modern lives of sedation and its dearth of physical challenges have left us soft and inactive. Any physical activity done long enough and with enough effort will help to make you healthier. So if it is that easy, why use a trainer?

Well, some people don’t need one; they have the time and desire to learn everything they can and practice it in the gym. They will, through trial and error, figure things out themselves (and then maybe go on and become a trainer!). A trainer is for people who want to skip the trial and error, and is there to help guide your progress. Not all trainers are created equal, of course, and finding a good one can be a journey unto itself.
